Celebrate Intellectual & Developmental Disability Awareness Month

Published On: March 12, 2025

This month we aspire to build awareness and promote the engagement of people living with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), a diverse group of severe chronic conditions resulting from mental and/or physical impairment. These disabilities can begin before birth and usually surface during a child’s developmental period, impacting a person’s life throughout. Examples of IDD include autism, behavior disorders, brain injury, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, intellectual disability and spina bifida. IDD can be associated with additional challenges including mental health, mobility and physical symptoms.

Magnolia Community Services relies on Medicaid as the main source of funding for each client. To ensure the full funding of our support and medical staff, programming and facilities, our budget depends on the investment and generosity of corporate and foundation grants and individual contributions. Many may not be aware that Magnolia does not receive tuition or residential payments from clients.

Magnolia Community Services provides the care, resources, and programing to meet the needs of our clients to live fulfilling lives.

This month we reach out to our community to educate, engage and promote awareness and understanding of the resources needed to adequately care for this vulnerable population.
